9v Battery Charger

The 9v battery charger is used to recharge the rectangular 9 volt battery. This type of battery is used in a wide range of electronic appliances, such as personal alarms, digital clocks and smoke detectors. As mentioned above, the 9 volt battery is not cylindrical like the common A-series batteries. It is instead rectangular and measures 48.5 mm × 26.5 mm × 17.5 mm.  The 9v battery charger is also known as the PP3 battery charger, radio battery charger and transistor battery charger.

When the 9 volt battery first appeared on the consumer market, it was used to power transistorised radio receivers and was therefore commonly referred to as transistor battery.

Getting a 9v battery charger is a way of saving money in the long run and make sure that you always have a battery of correct size and voltage ready for use. Purchasing a rechargeable battery and a 9v battery charger is naturally more pricy than getting an ordinary single-use 9v battery, but you may save money since you can use the rechargeable battery over and over again. When you try to estimate whether or not you will save money in the long run using a 9v battery charger , you must take into account that you can not recharge your 9v battery for ever. Even a rechargeable battery has a limited lifespan since each recharge session afflicts minor damages to the battery.

There exist several different types of rechargeable 9 v batteries that you can recharge in your 9v battery charger. When you purchase batteries for your 9v battery charger it is important that you make sure that they are rechargeable batteries, not single-use batteries. Never attempt to recharge single-use batteries in your 9v battery charger. There are for instance the alkaline, carbon-zinc, nickel-cadmium, lithium and nickel metal hydride 9 volt batteries. There formal names according to the ANSI/SEDA standard are 1604A (alkaline), 1604D (carbon-zinc), 11604 (nickel-cadmium), 1604LC lithium and 7.2H5 (nickel metal hydride). The ideal of battery depend on your appliances. Will you use your 9v battery in a high-drain device that would quickly empty a standard alkaline battery? Do you plan to expose the battery to high temperatures? Do you want to be able to pop in the battery into a smoke detector and more or less forget about the device for months or even years?

Saving money is not the only reason why consumers get a 9v battery charger. If you use 9v batteries in important devices like personal alarms, it is naturally important to always be able to replace empty batteries with fresh ones, even if the battery store is closed. When travelling abroad it is nice to be able to replace the batteries without having to run around in a new city trying to locate a store that sells appropriate 9v batteries. If you have a 9v battery charger, you simply place the empty battery in the charger and wait for it to be refilled. The charge pace differs between the different chargers. If you known that you frequently need to rapidly refill your batteries, it can be a good idea to get a fast-charge 9v battery charger.
